Overview
Aims and Scope
Asia Pacific Viewpoint publishes academic research within the social sciences, arts and humanities on the Asia Pacific. Promoting critical and creative approaches to area studies, Asia Pacific Viewpoint is interested in analyses that help to grasp the complex configurations of power that characterise this region across its various centres and peripheries. In this journal, the geographical reach of the Asia Pacific is not defined by specific geopolitical boundaries, but is shaped by the social, cultural, economic and political activities of its peoples, hence it is flexible, fluid, multiple, subjective and subjected to change.
Particular attention will be paid to:
constructionist and constructivist approaches to culture and nation shedding light on how power operates against and is negotiated by those who are unrepresented within nations and civilisations;
novel approaches to space and regions that reconsider existing epistemological traditions to area studies;
bottom-up investigations of areas in relation to transnational social, economic and cultural practices that challenge traditional understanding of space as fixed and stable;
Traditional Knowledge (TK) and environmental gatekeeping and resource management within the region;
ethnographic studies on coastal communities, rural agricultural communities, and urban and rural developments that are relevant to the wider Pacific, Pacific Islands, East and Southeast Asia;
sustainable and resilient development at both international and national levels in the region.
